Lang Celebrates 98th Birthday

Norma Lange, believed to be the oldest resident of Swedesboro, was the guest of honor at a birthday celebration on March 31. Swedesboro Councilman and neighbor Dave Flaherty presented a proclamation making March 31 Norma Lange Day. On hand were dignitaries, friends and neighbors.

Lang was born on March 26, 1910, the daughter of Samuel B. and Laura Lippincott Patterson and has been a lifelong Swedesboro resident and lifelong member of the Bethesda United Methodist church. A graduate of Swedesboro High School in 1929, she later took courses at the Wilfred Academy in Philadelphia and had beauty shops in Pass-A-Grill Florida, Ocean City and also in Swedesboro.

Norma has been a member of the Westville Junior Auxiliary to Cooper Hospital University Medical Center, the Westville Lady Lions Auxiliary, the Swedesboro/Woolwich Historical Society, the Gloucester County Historical Society, the Swedesboro Chapter 115 of the Eastern Star of New Jersey, a member of the Senior Adults of Bethesda and also served as the Parade Marshall for the 100 Anniversary celebration of Swedesboro, and attended all of the annual yearly Swedesboro High School Reunions.
