Second
year coach Maggie Goodman is expecting a much improved performance
from her Lady Dragons this season. Last year, the girls’ lacrosse team
at Kingsway lost only three seniors. Because of this they expect to
be very competitive this season.
Even
though the team was a respectable 7-13 last year, Goodman is striving
to be better. The practices started a full week later this season due
to scheduling. Goodman said she is already playing catch-up.
When I
interviewed Goodman in late March, they had not played any games yet.
Goodman said the squad is looking real good in scrimmages though.
Goodman
is the first to admit she could not do all the work by herself.
Goodman credits the assistance of her JV coach, Sarah Robertson, for
filling the varsity pipeline with great lacrosse players. “We are also
lucky to have Katherine Rowand as a volunteer,” said Goodman.
Senior
Shawna Blickle will co-anchor the defense. “Blickle has excellent foot
work and body position,” said Goodman. Blickle will be attending East
Stroudsburg next year.
Senior
Kristin Monaco will work with Blickle at defense. “Monaco is fast with
a quick stick,” said Goodman.
Senior
Jordan Stuhltrager is a fantastic midfielder. “She has great field
sense and is very fast,” said Goodman.
Watch
out for senior Lauren Alessi. This is her first year playing lacrosse.
Alessi is an amazing all around athlete and will find a spot on the
squad.
Senior
Ashley Gillman plays midfield. “Gillman is extremely fast and has a
nice shot,” said Goodman.
Senior
Mary Esposito is a midfielder with great stick skills and is willing
to take risks to get the ball up field and in the goal.
Senior
Chelsea Minix is an attacker with an awesome shot. “Minix is very
accurate with her shot and able to place the ball,” said Goodman.
Senior
Tessa Gechter is the team’s natural lefty. This makes her hard to
guard because she can attack the goal from the opposite side of the
net. “Gechter has natural ability and is a great crease roller,” said
Goodman.
Senior
Brittany Dipper plays goalie. I’ve been writing about Dipper for a
couple seasons now in more than one sport. She is an all around
athlete. Dipper will be attending the University of Maryland on a
scholarship to play lacrosse and field hockey.
Rounding
out the seniors are Alaina Turse, Brooke Crouch, Imani Green.
Up-and-comers to watch out for are junior midfielder Macy Limanni.
With her speed and athletics she will be an important part of the
team.
Sophomore Aubrey Coleman plays midfield. “Coleman is extremely
coachable and picks up everything instantly,” said Goodman.
Freshman
Melissa Sailey is tall and has natural ability. She will be a force to
reckon with for years to come at Kingsway. She will be a dominate
midfielder in the conference and opposing coaches will have her on
their radar by the end of the season.
At this
point in time, Goodman expects to be improved over last season and
expects the team to make the playoffs. “They are a great team and, no
matter how this season turns out, I am very proud of the girls, both
on and off the field,” concluded Goodman. |
