This is October. End of month it's Halloween. And
then it's Thanksgiving. From now to New Year's our toddlers to teens will
be looking for holiday activities.
So here are some kid-friendly and strictly easy,
strictly simple, and definitely fun, fast, yummy cookies for whatever
holiday you might need to cover. Best of all, these recipes are designed
to be even little-kid friendly.
They require no machine mixing, no cooking or baking,
no cutting-in of foodstuffs, no dough rolling and no exotic ingredients.
They are perfect for the young child wanting to be part of family
preparations, the older child wanting to make something on his or her own,
and a no-brainer for teens whipping up a little fun.
These quick recipes are suitable for last-minute
gifts or, with a little planning, they are holiday party activities for
kids. To give as gifts, place on a plate, wrap in colorful and seasonal
cellophane and decorate with ribbons and stickers. |

SHORTBREAD HOLIDAY TREATS |
|
-
1 box of shortbread squares, circles
or fingers
-
1 C peanut butter
-
1 container vanilla or strawberry or any
other-flavor frosting
-
1 small package of sweetened coconut flakes
-
1 small package of holiday M&Ms
Arrange one-half of a box of cookies (or
fingers) onto a serving plate. Spread peanut butter on top of each
individual cookie. Top each peanut-butter-covered cookie with
remaining cookies. Frost each cookie with vanilla frosting. Sprinkle
with sweetened coconut flakes. Garnish with holiday M&Ms. (Here is
where you can make the cookies look like ornaments, smiley faces, or
stick figures, for example)

PEANUT MAPLE SQUARES |
|
Mix the peanut butter and maple syrup until well
blended. Add the milk powder, stir well. Spread the mixture into a
loaf pan. Pat it down to make an even layer. Sprinkle the peanuts over
the mixture and press gently. Chill 1 hour. Cut into 1 inch squares.
Keep covered and chilled until you serve.
If you wish, use colored gel frosting to decorate
with swirls of holiday colors. Makes about 32 squares.

HOLIDAY FLOWERETTES |
|
-
1 box cookies with holes in the middle (e.g.
shortbread rounds, those fudge-striped cookies, any other cookie
with a hole in the center.)
-
gum drops and/or gummy candies
-
canned frosting or gel frosting, different
colors
-
confectioner's sugar, sprinkles
The object is to make a cookie flower. Arrange
the cookies on a baking sheet or other flat surface so as to easily
see what you are doing. Open the candy packages. Place one gum drop or
gummy candy in the middle of the cookie, carefully pushing it through
the hole of each cookie. (Cut gum drop or gummy in half, or trim, if
needed). The gum drop or candy is the center of the flower. Use the
frosting to decorate the flower as you like, then garnish with the
confectioner's sugar or sprinkles. You might use candy mints shaped
like a leaf to attach on the cookie with frosting. (These will be
fragile, and pretty, but will likely come apart when picked up. So
display carefully.)
