* Logan should go back to Paulsboro because they have room. Kingsway
cannot just continue to grow at this pace. The taxpayers cannot afford it.
In response to post 10, yes $4,419,943 will be lost but if you remove
Logan's children you would be able to reduce the amount of teachers and
making up 4 million is small compared to the $30 million the school wants
to get now. |
* This is a silly poll.
The 349 students are not what is tipping the scale, especially when
considering their tuition exceeds the tax dollars paid per student by the
sending districts. The development in Woolwich, East Greenwich and South
Harrison are what caused the overpopulation. Place blame where it belongs.
Once the blame has been determined, perhaps it would be more productive to
work towards an actual resolution. Maybe two high schools are needed.
Combining another district with Logan may be an option. Having two schools
as the Indian Schools, one for 9th & 10th, the other 11th & 12th. There
are many options, but going over the silly Logan needs its' own high
school is pointless. It will not happen and just creates more animosity.
BTW-I am from Woolwich, but find this ongoing debate silly.

* We believe that the
Logan students should have their own school. Kingsway has been overcrowded
ever since Logan students began to attend that district. It's time to make
a change to reduce our tax dollars. We do take care of our own students.
There are already enough sending districts that go to Kingsway now. When
will it end? |
* OK, kick out the Logan
kids that pay your school $4,200,000.00. Where will you get that money
from? |
* Logan should send our
kids to Paulsboro, I grew up in Logan & attended Paulsboro. My oldest son
wanted to go to Kingsway so I let him for his freshman year, He hated it!
He was treated like an outsider by other students & teachers. So Ii paid
over $2500 a year to send him to Paulsboro for the next three years.[the
best money I ever spent], Including having to provide transportation. He
was treated like everyone else & even learned about PAULSBORO PRIDE,
Something Kingsway doesn't understand. I have a son in 6th grade & I'm
saving now just to send him to Paulsboro. I dont hate Kingsway but it's
just not for us. Any school that does away w/ freshman sports should be
ashamed, These kids only get 4 years[which go by in a blink]. Think about
the kids that are great in certain sports, That could affect potential
scholarships for sports.@ Paulsboro the freshman aren't separate from the
rest they practice next to the seniors who teach them school pride. Bottom
line is Kingsway doesn't care about Logan students, It's about the money.
|
* As a former Logan
Township and Kingsway student, I'd like this futile argument to be put to
rest. There are several school districts that attend Kingsway, and the 350
students that come from Logan are not the problem. This happens every few
years-- the school is overcrowded and budget cuts make it unable to
expand. The middle school is just as overcrowded as the high school. And
guess what? Logan students don't attend the middle school. Get a clue.
|
* Why does this newspaper
have to open up a conversation like this that causes bad feelings all
around? This is small town thinking and this is no longer a small town.
|
* Why is Logan always the
first to blame for overcrowding? Is lessening the enrollment by 350
students really going to make a difference? Logan doesn't attend the
middle school and they seem to also be overcrowded so doesn't that tell
you something? Stop building houses in Woolwich and East Greenwich and you
might slow down the school enrollment! Make Logan permanently part of the
sending district. If I had wanted my children to get the lousy education
that Paulsboro offers I wouldn't have moved to Logan from Paulsboro twenty
years ago. |
* The existing situation
should not be allowed to continue. Because Logan is not in the sending
district they do not pay anything toward the continuing expansion of the
school. They should either become permanent members of the Kingsway
sending district and pay their fair share, become permanent sending
members of another district, or build their own school.
|
* Logan pays half the
taxes that all of the other sending districts do because they have all of
the industrial tax ratables, so let them build their own school, or merge
with Paulsboro. Why should we foot the bill for additions and renovations
and they get the benefit, but their taxes don't increase, but ours do.
Time for them to move on. |
* How come Kingsway does
not have any Freshman sports? That's deplorable. Kids rely on these
activities to boost their entrances into college. They are being held back
and opportunities hindered. |
* Kingsway should give up
a Board seat to Logan Township. Currently Logan pays only for students
attending Kingsway. A Board seat would require Logan to pay for all
students. Kingsway includes Swedesboro, So. Harrison, Woolwich and E.
Greenwich and we pay for all high school students no matter where they go.
Also, a past article reported that Kingsway was able to save money from
energy efficient implementations. Where is that money going to be used? I
would like it applied to taxes, but is it going toward the new high school
renovations/additions instead, or where?
About 11 years ago, the entire graduating class of Kingsway was ~ 315.
Right now, a typical third grade class in Swedesboro alone is ~ 325. By
the time these kids graduate Kingsway, the entire graduating class will be
~700. Building expansion is inevitable. If a new building were built
fresh, I propose to build a 2-story on already existing property. That
would alleviate an obstacle of not being able to expand due to growth
later.
How come Kingsway |
* 349 students is not
enough to build a high school and merging would most likely be with
Paulsboro. If Logan and the state are willing to pay over $12K per
student, why not open that to private school. There are 3 Catholic high
schools in the area that are less than 2/3 of that cost. Why not offer
that to the parents and save everyone money? If you say legally that can't
happen, change the law. If you don't have a high school you should some
leeway.
