East Greenwich
Committee Approves
Berkley Redevelopment

by Robert Holt

By Robert Holt

At their meeting on Dec. 19, the Swedesboro Council adopted an ordinance making the intersections of Guest and Helms, Anderson and Helms, and Guest and Leahy Roads three way stop sign intersections, and turning the intersections of Weatherby and Helms, Vanneman and Helms, Third and Railroad, Leahy and Vanneman, Leahy and Weatherby, Leahy and Anderson, and Leahy and Fow into four way stop sign intersections.

Numerous town complaints about speeding and concerns over children’s safety led to residents petitioning Council to take action against violators. A public hearing also took place at the meeting about the matter.

The East Greenwich Township Committee approved a mixed-use redevelopment agreement with Berkley Square Redevelopers, LLC at their meeting on Dec. 13, after debating the terms and conditions of the contract for almost three hours.

The motion carried by a three to two margin, with Committeeman William Bumbernick and Jeff Craig casting the negative votes.

The Berkley Square project would install 92 townhomes on the site along Berkley and Cohawkin Roads in its first phase, along with commercial development, but the Committee expressed concerns that the community needed commercial revenue more.

Swedesboro Animal Hospital Named in Top 5

Our community is home to one of the most advanced animal hospitals in North America, according to the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA).

Swedesboro Animal Hospital/Tri-State Animal Emergency Center has been selected as a Top 5 Finalist for the prestigious “Practice of the Year” award, given each year to the top accredited hospital in the United States and Canada. The award will be announced at the annual AAHA Conference in Denver in March.

Only 15 percent of all animal hospitals in North America achieve accreditation by AAHA, which is the only organization that accredits small animal veterinary practices. To earn accreditation, a hospital must be evaluated on more than 900 standards of medical proficiency and practice, customer service, sanitation and cleanliness, and level of overall care.
