Pre-School Story Hours:  Story hours for children ages 2-5 are held each Monday at 11 a.m. May programs include: May 6 – May Flower Basket; May 13 – Colorful Caterpillars; May 20 – Bird Nests.     

Book Discussion Clubs:  The Evening Club meets on the first Wednesday of each month, and will discuss Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin on May 1 at 6:30 p.m. The Afternoon Club meets on the third Thursday of each month and will discuss Caleb’s Crossing by Geraldine Brooks on May 16 at 1:30 p.m.

Knitting Club: Knitters meet on Tuesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. to work on individual projects and share patterns, ideas and yarn. New members are always welcome. Beginners should bring a pair of size 8 knitting needles and a skein of worsted weight yarn (marked as medium weight, #4).

Knitting Class - Washcloths and Dishcloths – Wednesday, May 22 at 2 p.m. This class is for new knitters who have mastered the basic knit and purl stitches and are ready to tackle your first project. You will learn how to read a simple pattern and create interesting designs by combining these two stitches to create an easy wash or dishcloth. Please call the library for details on materials. Advance registration is required.

Food For Thought: “Outdoor Dining” – Tuesday, May 14 at 6:30 p.m. Picnic and barbeque weather is here! Bring a taste and the recipe for your favorite outdoor food and we’ll share ideas from soup to dessert for casual outdoor entertaining. Please register in advance.

National Library Week - Author Visit - Patricia Brady-Danzig, “Fabrizio’s Fable” - Tuesday, May 21 at 6:30 p.m. Parents and children will be charmed by this tale of a smart little Italian mouse named Fabrizio, who outwits Luigi, the cat. The author will read the story in both English and Italian, followed by the Fabrizio Song, recorded by the Celebration Singers Children Choir. Don’t miss this delightful program!

Computer Classes: Managing and editing Digital Photos, Wednesday, May 15 at 2 p.m.

Volunteers: The library is seeking adult volunteers who are willing to commit 2 to 5 hours a week assisting staff with a variety of tasks. If you are able to donate your time to a very worthy cause, please contact us as soon as possible to arrange an interview.

SWEDESBORO LIBRARY EVENTS

Join us for our special programs:

“Memories of Life in New Sweden” – Thursday, May 23, 7 p.m. Aleasa Hogate of the New Sweden Centre will perform as her ancestor, Elisabeth Dalbo, who lived in Raccoon (Swedesboro) in the 17th century. Aleasa brings with her a trunk filled with items used by Swedish colonists. This is an ideal interactive program for both adults and children. PAWS for Reading – Register your child to read to a trained therapy dog for a 15 minute time slot, Mondays, May 6 & 20 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Please register by calling 467-0111 or at the library. Permission slips are required.

Story Time – Story Time is a fun time! We meet on Tuesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. (May 7, 14, 21 & 28). Story Time is best suited for children ages 2-1/2 to 5 years of age. Registration required.

Afternoon Story Time – Wednesday afternoons at 1 p.m. May’s dates are May 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 – Library meeting Room. Registration required.

Baby Music Time: “Sing, Dance, and Play” – Bring your baby to a fun time of music – familiar songs, activities and fingerplays. Baby Time meets on the first and third Thursdays. This month’s dates are Thursday, May 2 & 16, 10:30 a.m. Registration required.

Toddler Music Time: “Sing, Dance, and Play” – Your toddler will enjoy a fun time marching, playing instruments, and singing familiar songs and fingerplays. Toddler Music meets the second and fourth Thursdays. This month’s dates are, May 9 & 23, 10:30 a.m. Registration required.

Teen Advisory Board: Join our Teen Advisory Board. Be a Reading Buddy, work with children, learn library skills, or help plan teen activities. Do you enjoy writing? Write reviews and/or create quarterly teen newsletters. Call 467-0111 for information on how you can volunteer or become an active member.

Teen/Tween Drawing Club – Art Instructor, Ethel Cruz, will teach drawing techniques such as contour drawing and rhythm drawing. We will meet Wednesday, May 8, 4:30 p.m. The drawing club meets the second Wednesday of each month. Registration required.

Tween/Teen Writers’ Club – The writers’ class has begun again. Join us in learning new forms of poetry and descriptive writing, share ideas and stories and poetry you have written – Wednesday, May 15, 4:30 p.m. The writers’ club meets the third Wednesday of each month. Registration required.

Teen/Tween Gaming – Take a break from homework and stress, join other teens for Xbox, Wii, and DSL games as well as traditional board games – Thursday, May 30 at 6:30 p.m. Registration required.

Teen/Tween Book Club – Exciting selections, fun discussion, and activities – second Thursday of each month – Thursday, May 9, 6 p.m. Registration required. This month’s selection will be Many Waters by Madeline L’Engle.

Meet the Artist – Learn about the artist, Grant Wood, and create an art project using his techniques for the month of May. This month we will meet on Thursday, May 2, at 7 p.m. Registration required.

Homework and Reading Buddies – Children interested in a homework or reading buddy during the 2012-2013 school year should contact the library at 467-0111. Teens from our Teen Advisory Board assist younger children with homework and help them with different academic skills.
