I’ll make this short and sweet. I loved it.
I loved everything about it from its soothing interior
with soft (yet readable) lighting and quiet background music. It made me feel
like I was sitting an in upscale casino restaurant.
The layout featured booths and tables. It’s central
feature was a large sushi bar.
Service was quick and polite. We went on a Tuesday
evening at 5 p.m. There was no waiting for a table but the place quickly
filled with other diners of all ages.
This restaurant offers a menu featuring Chinese, Thai,
and Japanese cuisine. Their menu was split into sections for easier ordering.
I am not an aficionado of this type of cuisine other than
what you order from a Chinese Restaurant as take out. This is NOTHING like
that. Although Green Tea may have some of the same items on the menu, they do
not compare in taste and quality.
Feeling a little adventurous, I decided to order from the
Thai menu. My husband, not as adventurous, decided to stick with Chinese.
For an appetizer I ordered the chicken teriyaki sticks (satay)
which featured skews of chicken char-grilled with a somewhat spicy peanut
sauce for dipping. Chicken and peanuts? It sounds strange but it was
delicious.
I shared this with my husband. He liked the chicken but
could have skipped the peanut sauce.
For our entrée he ordered a safe General Tso’s Chicken
which features lightly fried chicken cooked with sweet peppers, onion, carrot,
in a sweet and spicy sauce.
My husband was in heaven with his platter. The meat was
tender, perfectly fried with a delicate sweetness and yet was spicy a few
moments after biting into it. He said it was the perfect blend. After stealing
one off of his plate, I had to agree.
I asked the waiter to suggest a Thai dish for me. He
recommended one of their opening specials, Thai Jungle Queen. It had thin
slices of wok fried chicken with spicy basil sauce, sweet onions, bell peppers
and grilled jumbo prawns in a curry coconut sauce.
Both platters arrived with separate serving plates. The
portions were quite large. My dish featured a few flower blossoms on a small
bed of shredded lettuce. It was a nice touch.
They were not kidding about spicy. Although I love spicy
food, after the first bite I was coughing and even had embarrassingly watery
eyes.
But then I adjusted and loved very bite. Each mouthful
brought a different delightful taste. The prawns, in particular had just a
hint of coconut. They were delicious.
Even though we both had enough left on our plates to take
home, I couldn’t resist having dessert (of course). I ordered the fried
bananas and was delighted with the warm, slightly crispy and sweet slices. It
was definitely enough for two but I didn’t share.
I also ordered sushi to go. I’ve never had sushi before
and asked the waiter to recommend something. He valiantly tried to describe a
beginner dish but I honestly couldn’t understand him so I just picked
something – Spicy Lobster.
I ordered it to go because if I didn’t like it, I didn’t
want to embarrass myself or them by making a face in public. It’s a good thing
I did this because after getting home and having a bite I realized I was
definitely not a fan.
The evening was capped off with warm hand towels, orange
slices and fortune cookies.
Pricing of their restaurant menu food ranged from $1.35
egg roll appetizer to a $17.95 bass dish. Most items were around $15. Their
Sushi Bar menu went as high as $49.95 for the Love Boat which was 12 pieces
sashimi, 12 pieces sushi and 2 special rolls.
Take out, catering and party trays are also available.
In all, we would both go back there. That’s high praise
from my husband.
Total for the night with two beverages, one appetizer,
two entrees, one dessert and one sushi was $53.77 including tax.
This was ample, delicious food in a nice atmosphere with
friendly service and definitely worth a try.
